You can now make payments to multiple people on Lightning Network

Lightning Network (LN) users can now make a single payment to multiple people, without using intermediary platforms. The new feature was added this week, after LN developers implemented a basic “multi-route payment” support.

The support was announced in Bitcoin Optech in your newsletter of this December 18, which highlights that This solution allows you to spend or receive funds from the same payment in different channels. The new feature, known as multi-route payments, was proposed from months ago with the aim of increasing the usability of LN. This is because the network has presented problems in this area.

Sending a transaction to various beneficiaries or customers, without the use of intermediaries, was possible before this update. However, the option had its failures and inconveniences. For example, if you wanted to make a payment between several channels, each of these should have the same amount of money with each other since, otherwise, it was not processed.

Likewise, it was preferred that at the time of making a transfer between several parties or a split payment always be made with all connected to the same channel. In addition, the recipient also had to wait for each of the parties to arrive in order to make the claim.

However, users can now pay multiple hashes, all derived from the same fund, thanks to the new LN function, which can then be claimed as a single payment. In this way, private consumers do not have to worry about the amount of balance they have in each of their particular channels, since they can send their total balance available on all channels.

What is not specified in the information published by Optech is by which proposal of multiple payments the developers chose, since there are two versions. The first, known as multiple atomic payments (AMP), allows several transfers to various hashes all derived from the same total fund that works as a "preimage". The other proposal, called Base-AMP, facilitates the realization of a simple multiple payment using a single hash.

With these types of updates they demonstrate that the Lightning Network ecosystem is increasingly focused on its usability. Therefore, LN has managed to have support in a recognized exchange house, such as Bitfinex, in addition to the development of payment tools with multiple cryptocurrencies and simpler channel configurations.
