In several attacks by the militant Islamists Taliban at least 31 security forces were killed in northern Afghanistan. This was announced by the individual authorities in the provinces concerned.
According to provincial councilors Ibrahim Khair Andish and Afzal Hadid, nine police officers died in a street attack in the province of Balch. Kunduz provincial councilors, Safiullah Amiri and Fawzia Yaftali, said Taliban fighters had attacked three checkpoints. 14 security forces were killed and six others injured. In the Takhar province, the Taliban destroyed a military vehicle that was on patrol. Eight security forces were killed, local authorities said.
In the North Afghanistan There are repeated violent clashes between the Taliban and Afghan security forces. Hundreds of people died on both sides last year.
US officials are in talks with the terrorist group to resolve the conflict politically. Most recently, the Taliban leadership had approved a temporary ceasefire. A peace agreement with the United States could be signed in the period not yet clearly defined.
